Yen Hits 33-Year Low Agai🌸nst Dollar on BOJ Caution
The value of the Japanese yen relative to the U.S. dollar fell on Tuesday to its lowest since the summer of 1990 after the 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:Bank of Japan's interest rate decision disappointed investors who were looking for the bank to more aggressively loosen 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:yield curve controls.
The BOJ said in a policy statement Tuesday it would consider 1% as a “reference point” ten-year bond yield rather than a strict cap, suggesting it would allow rates to fluctuate but 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:remained prepared to intervene should they rise too dramatically. Investorsಌ had expected a more dramatic change to bank policy.
Higher bond yields are expected to have the effect of drawing Japanese money to the country, driving up demaꦦnd forꦬ yen in the process and increasing its value vis-a-vis other major currencies.
After Tuesday’s BOJ decision, the value of one U.S. dollar jumped more than 1.5%✨ to about 151.50 yen.

AB InBev Earnings Beat Despite Lower Volumes
Shares of Anheuser-Busch InBev SA (BUD), the beverage giant behind Budweiser and Stella Artois, r✃ose about 5% af💖ter it beat third-quarter earnings estimates despite a conservative boycott continuing to weigh on Bud Light sales.
AB InBev earnings by the numbers
- Underlying profit: $1.73 billion vs. $1.64 billion expected, according to analyst estimates compiled by Visible Alpha
- Underlying EPS: $0.86 vs. $0.82 expected
- Revenue: $15.57 billion vs. $15.66 billion expected
- Total volumes: 151.9 thousand hectoliters vs. 152.5 thousand hectoliters
The story at AB InBev was similar to other food and household goods companies: higher prices offset lower volumes. Total volume decreased 3.4% year-over-year, with a more than 17% drop in U.S. volumes—partially due to backlash against Bud Light's marketing partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney—overshadowing modest growth in Central America and Asia Pacific. But revenue and revenue per hectoliter increased by about 5%, indicating shoppers are accepting price hikes.
PepsiCo (PEP) reported a similar phenomenon earlier this month when it said 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:revenue grew 11% last quarter despite volumes falling. Procter & Gamble (PG) said 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:revenue grew 6% and gross margin increase🐠d 460 basis points on pric🍷e hikes.

Pfizer Earnings Weighed Down Again by Dwi🌟ndling COVID Sales
Unused stockpiles of COVID-19 treatment Paxlovid and muted demand for its COVID vaccine weighed down on Pfizer's (PFE) third-quarter earnings.
The company 澳洲幸运5开奖号码历史查询:reported a net loss of $2.𝐆38 billion or 42 cents a share. The adjusted diluted loss was 968 million or 17 cents a share. Revenue fell 42% compared to the prior-year quarter to $13.2ඣ b🌃illion.
The biggest hit to the company's earnings was a $5.6 billion non-cash inventory write-off, primarily on account of the company taking back millions of unused Paxlovid doses from the U.S. government.
But Pfizer reiterated in its earnings report the depth of its pipeline and its commitment to adjusting to a post-COVID landscape. The company is implementing layoffs and other cost-cutting measures that it hopes will save it $1 billion this year and $2.5 billion in 2024.
Pfizer shares were down roughly 2% Tuesday morning. They have fallen by about 35% in the last year and are now tradiඣng at their lo🔯west level since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
